Meet Melissa

What made you start teaching fitness/at FlowCorps?

I first found a love for yoga and pilates in my high school gym class. I grew up in New York and moved to North Carolina after college without knowing a single person. I found community and friends in group fitness classes, which led me to pursue a yoga teacher training. I continued to try new fitness modalities and fell in love with flowcorps after my first class. It just naturally seemed like the next step to learn to teach it so I could share it with more people!

What is your favorite part of teaching?

One of my favorite parts of teaching is seeing clients singing along to the music. It really drives home the science behind coordinating music to movement, which is so fundamental to all of our classes.

What is your favorite exercise & why?

My favorite exercise is Power Lunge. It's in the name! Power Lunge is pretty challenging but so effective and really allows us to get deeper into our lunges than some other lunge exercises because we have the support of the handlebars and the back platform. It's a quick burn, there are lots of variations, and I come out of it feeling so strong!

What is your teaching style?

I'd describe my teaching style as playful. I want to challenge clients to find their edge, but I want them to laugh and smile with each other too. My intention is always to help clients find their strength and mobility, as well as the sense of community I found in group fitness.

What would a typical playlist of yours include?

I love a cover, so my playlists often feature outrageous versions of early 2000s throwbacks.
